Flowers of all kinds…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 8:24 pm

I love putting together layered flowers of all different materials; felt, lace, paper, etc.  It’s cool what goes together, both material and colour-wise.   Today I made a couple of birthday cards using layered flowers.

I like using different colours of felt, and matching them with the paper.  Little pretties that are simple but effective.

Hope you’re week is ok, I’m not liking this heat at the moment; we’re a month into autumn already!  Thanks for stopping by,

A change of pace…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 8:30 am

At Sugar and Spice this week we’re going to be sewing critters from felt and fabric; you know, they’ve become popular lately.  They’re usually called ’softies’, and the great thing is that anything goes!  You can use any sort of fabric you like, and they can be ugly or cute, etc.  This sort of craft appeals to girls of all ages, so I’m sure the girls will have fun.

I was looking for patterns on the internet the other day and came across the blog of a lady in Melbourne who makes beautiful softies.  Her blog is called One Red Robin and she had a free pattern to use, called Ruby.  I printed it off and couldn’t resist getting in early and making her myself.

Here she is.  I love the colours pale pink, pale green, and red together, so I used bits of fabric and trims I found at op shops, and her face is made from felt.  I made the little dress from lace strips sewn together, and the little rosette is velvet ribbon I gathered with a button sewn in the middle.  I think she’s so cute!

Basic Grey Sketch Challenge

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 4:41 pm

Here’s this week’s challenge:

This week we have a fabulous sketch for you to follow, which was designed by our fabulous Design Team Member Rica, feel free to rotate, resize and flip the sketch or even all three if you want to :) , you can also add any more embellishments etc that you would like to, but remember to use at least one item from basic grey somewhere on your creation, and most of all have fun :)

Here’s my card; I’ve used Granola papers.  I wanted to do something that can be given to a man, so it’s a bit understated by my usual standards (!).  I like the colours of these papers, and I’ve used some of my metal button stash and a Cavallini stamp.  Heather did a great job with this sketch!

I’VE BEEN PUBLISHED!

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 12:19 pm

Oh my goodness, one of my articles has been published in the new Papercraft Essentials Australian Edition magazine!  It was one of those weird moments- I was looking at the craft magazines in the shop and saw it.  I didn’t know when it was coming out, so it was quite a surprise, but a very good surprise!

I’ve scanned the first page of the article; it goes over 4 pages, so you’ll have to grab a copy if you want to see the rest.  My theme for the articles was ‘pearls and lace’ and I’ve made 5 cards of varying degrees of difficulty.

It’s so cool to see my work in print, I’ve aimed for this for ages so I’m so grateful it’s actually happened.  This has really made my day!

I opened one babushka & inside there was another…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 9:03 am

That’s how these dolls work, and it seems to be the same with my cards.  I made a couple more babushka cards last night:

You really need to see these in real life, because the decorations don’t show up that well here. I’ve embellished the dolls with lots of things, including; brads, rhinestones, buttons, and lots of little french knots (this did take a while…), to create a folky, crafty effect.  These are so much fun; I can see why they’re popular.

I’ve also made my next couple of Basic Grey Blog challenge cards, which I really enjoyed.  We’ve got a good mix of challenges, which really gets you thinking… Enjoy your day!

Kaisercraft babushka paper

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 6:30 pm

is so cute, and I think it will be a big hit.  Today I made my second card using this paper, and I’ve sold both already!

I’ve decorated this babushka doll with rhinestones, pearls on her cheeks, ribbon and button around her neck, and I embroidered french knots along the edge of her cape.  So cute; I’ll definitely be doing more of these…

Autumn is here to stay…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 8:00 am

which makes me smile.  I love this time of year-when autumn moves into winter.  I love the cooler weather; if it is sunny it’s not that hot hot sun; just warm.  It also makes me feel like creating…

p1010487-small

I made this birthday card with Sultry papers from Basic Grey.  I love these greens and bright pink together.  The rubons go well with it.  Last week I bought a jar of vintage buttons (I’m crazy for unusual buttons at the moment), and this green one is from that.

p1010494-small

I made this one last night, using the last of this My Mind’s Eye cardstock.  I love these colours together; purple, green & teal. I cut the striped circle and turned it around so the stripes are on a diagonal, and the rubon is decorated with rhinestones.  I love these rubons-I got them from a really cheap shop and they’re great designs and colours.

p1010492-small

This thankyou card has gorgeous Making Memories ribbon, but I wasn’t sure what to put with it.  I chose to use pale blue and peach; I like these colours together.  I love the blue flower, too-I bought it the other day with some others of different colours.  I cut the edge of the blue paper with pinking shears and used distress ink to highlight.

I’ve had some successful little op shopping trips lately, as I’ve found some great things to put on my cards.  For instance, I’m always looking for metal buttons, and at one place I found over 40 buttons!  It takes a bit of scrounging in the op shops, but you still get good things.  Yesterday I got a cool vintage story book with great pictures for kids’ cards.  I’ve also been working on my ideas for Sugar and Spice (the youth group I run at church), and it’s exciting.  So far we’ve made things from paper and done some baking; and now I’m looking at doing some sewing and making little tag albums with the girls.  It’s a challenge thinking up activities for the girls to do, but it always works out.

Phew! Sorry about my rambling on, have a great day!

Flowers and Fancy Pants

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 3:52 pm

are some of the things I’ve used on my latest cards.  You can never underestemate the humble flower; what would we put on cards without them?

p1010424-small2

I love this Fancy Pants paper; which is why I now have none left.  I cut out the greeting with my Cuttlebug, and added the glitter sticker and flowers.

p1010427-small

I like how the chipboard flowers on this card go so well with the My Mind’s Eye paper.  I painted the flowers and added a brad and vintage button.

I was very adventurous last night and created the new header for my blog…what do you think?  I’ve used a picture of a card I made, that I cropped to fit.  It’s my first try, so it’s ok.  Thanks for looking at my stuff,

Enjoy your afternoon,

About the texture…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 6:42 pm

What, you may ask, am I on about?  I’m referring to the latest Basic Grey Blog challenge.  This is our latest challenge:

For this weeks challenge we would like to see some texture on your creations, texture can be achieved is so many ways, but to name a few to give you some ideas, how about heat embossing, dry embossing, flock, felt, glitter, glossy accents, the list could go on but i will stop as i am sure you already have a ton of ideas lol, don’t forget though that you need to use at least one item form BasicGrey somewhere on your creation and to follow the rules along the left hand side before taking part in this challenge if you wish to be entered for the prize :)

p1010420-small

For my card I’ve used Ambrosia and Bittersweet papers from Basic Grey, with felt, machine stitching, glitter paper, ribbons & buttons for texture.  I love combining various elements for my cards, so I really enjoyed this challenge.

I’ve had a great week this week selling my cards; I’ve sold 25!  It means so much to me when people like what I make (and they’re willing to pay money for it…!).  So I have to say a huge grateful thankyou to everyone who has encouraged me with my creative efforts; it’s so very much appreciated.  I tend to struggle with my self-confidence, so it’s really helped me.

Thanks for stopping by,

Sunday afternoon…

Filed under: Uncategorized — antheam @ 3:28 pm

Nothing much happening; just this card I finished today.

p1010418-small

The Porcelain range from BasicGrey is one of the loveliest I’ve seen in ages; the colours and designs are so versatile.  For this card I cut out the birdcages and decorated them with rhinestones and Kindyglitz.  The birds are Cavallini, and I used distress ink to stamp them.  I love these Cavallini stamps, and the little tin they came in.  I’ve also got the butterfly set…

Thanks for stopping by,

Anthea
